In the spirit of the holidays
Posted on December 13th, 2011 No comments
There’s a unique show not to be missed this coming Friday in Toronto. Asalto Navideño Reimagined is a combination of Classic Albums live, a seasonal celebration and a bold statement of pan-Latino culture. David Dacks brought together Lido Pimienta and a team of producers (DJ Linterna & Uladat, DJ Javier Estrada and Sonora Longoria) to be able to partly recreate the classic Christmas album by the legends Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe. Lido will perform and sing with vocalist and percussionist for that very one time only. Check out the details in the link belowhttp://www.facebook.com/events/297390813619128/

Linterna Al Pastor

We got an exclusive mix from Toronto’s Dj Linterna who’s one of the great people behind the Dos Mundos Radio Show and the Funkété parties with Sergio “The Godfather” Elmir. Linterna is going into glitchy and more experimental cumbia soundscape in this mix, probably different from what he’s going to play during an outdoor ice skate session in Toronto at the end of the month. Linterna and Elman (Elmir) will the guests of Nuvo Tumbao in Montreal on Feb 18th with Boogat.

Stumble on Bonjay

So we’ve been Bonjay‘s supporters for years at Masala and I must openly admit that I’m now working with them to help them go from a Canadian sensation to an international one. And they deserve it, as they’re creating their very own unique futuristic and soulful version of Dancehall, rooted in the experience of many second generation immigrants who manage to reflect their complex identity into a complex blended music. What happened in Dancehall in the UK in the 80s and 90s with the kids of the Jamaican migration of the 50s and 60s is happening now in Canada (especially in Toronto) with the kids of migrants from the 70s and the 80s.They have many stories to tell and I’m sure I’ll share some of them here in the future, but for now I can only urge you to check out their first music videos, buy their first mini-album Broughtupsy (only available in North America, spread the word to your European label friends) or go see them live.
