Shout out to Congorock who put me on the hunt for some SA House this morning. Couple good song I found along the way.

Sampling Fela and first single of his 2007 album Tha Rocka, here’s Thebe’s Nomathemba

Next is a really cool song named Terminator by DJ Cndo, a female dj/producer from Durban. The song seems to be successful in Zimbabwe according to Youtube research.

  • Valeo November Top 10

    Posted on November 23rd, 2009 2 comments

So unlike last month, I’m posting my monthly top 10 within the proper time line!

I’m kicking things up with a Kwaito track from one or two years ago. Always good to start a night with some good vibes like this.

    Hip-Hop Pantsula – Tlhabane Maftown

In kinda the same vibe, I really liked the Flying Lotus contribution to Hyperdub’s 5 year anniversary compilation. Loving the way he switches the bassline and the snare from their usual place and the groove of the result.
    Flying Lotus – Disco Balls

Next is a Masala selection that you probably won’t get anywhere else. Dancehall from the French west indies meets Haitian Kompa-zouk and it sounds amazing! Brilliant alchemy on this one by Admiral T, who’s singing about those who don’t like Haitian people but would dance on Carimi, T-Vice, Tikabzi or Tabou Combo! This one is a couple years old but you can judge by yourself, it won’t be getting old! Instant classic!
Admiral T – Yo Pa Enmé

I got to pay respect to mister Geko Jones for this month Top 10, because this sir gave me some serious heat when we met in NY a last month. Geko gave me this awesome piece of remix work by Subskrpt on Jahdan Blakkamoore’s acapella. Don’t know much about Subskrpt, but I read on Diplo’s twitter that this should be released on vinyl with other voicing on it. Hopefully this will happen!
Major Lazer ft Jahdan Blakkamoore – Cash Flow (Subskrpt demo rmx)

Aside of some mind blowing accoustic cumbia from the coast of Columbia, he also pointed me in the direction of Batida, a Portugal based duo formed of DJ Mpula and Beat Laden, who are revisiting some original material and turning them into some awesome dancefloor magic. Great work Batida, we want to hear more like this! Buy here.
DJ Mpula e Beat Laden – Nufeko Disole

In the same vein of revisiting African (?) Congolese (?) Rumba (?) highlife (?) type of guitar playing, here’s another producer from France named Débruit who’s been putting out some of the best beatmaking out of the “Hexagone”. This is getting released on Dec 7th on CIVIL MUSIC under the moniker of Spatio Temporel EP.

Still in France, Douster is ripping things up on the regular, just check out his latest release:
Malente&Dex feat. New Kidz – Lions (Douster Remix)

Blanquito Man is a usual suspect of Latin music in all kind of ways. He use and still is the lead singer of King Chango, has been in many other projects, and recently has been doing music under the name of Zuzuku. The acappella of Con Paso de Campeon has been circulating on the internet for a minute and Pedro Infame took advantage of it and turn it into something very unusual, a mix of kuduro inspired beats with dubstep, some rock harmonics all of that under the reggae pop singing of Blanquito Man. The result is highly recommended and pretty unique. Judge for yourself (Thanks to Toy Selectah for this one):
Blanquito Man – Con Paso de Campeon (Pedro Infame remix) [DOWNLOAD]

#9 is one of Mavado latest burner. I’m putting this here simply for the bridge at 45s. Rewind!!!

I’m finishing this top with a song I’ve heard a few months ago through this video. It took some time to grow on me but now I listen to it several time in a row. I always loved Chicago House and Azari and III are perfectly bringing back the sound of the early 90’s on this song. Great producers from Toronto, definitely need to keep an eye on them!
Azari & III – Hungry for the power [DOWNLOAD]

Last week I had the chance to talk with my friend Moemedi of Ruff riddims based in Palapye Botswana. This guy is working really hard with his crew to release multiple artists and tracks from Botswana doing some dancehall, Hip Hop, Kwaito.

They’ve sent to us a couple of tracks that are just really nice. Masala is really proud to present some of their tracks of their featured artists.

First of all, this is Tebza, who proudly represent Ruff Riddims!

This is one of my current favorite tracks. Hot!

    Tebza – Rocka

Here’s now Skeat in this video and a nice track following.

This track will put you in a good mood for sure!

    Skeat – Mamela

Finally, the latest release is MaSuper that I’m waiting to hear the album. For now I have this hypnotic and relaxing beat of airtime.

    MaSuper – Airtime

  • Revenir à la normale

    Posted on January 9th, 2009 1 comment

African techno in da place.

Download Izé – Tronku Di Mundo

    01 Tiken Jah Fakoly – Tonton d’America [2004]
    02 Godessa – Social Ills [2003]
03 Beta Simon – Ou Hayé Naya [2007]
    04 Fuch’N’Rad – Super Evil [2004]
    05 Tony Allen Feat. Damon Albarn & T – Every Season [2002]
06 Boy Ge Mendes – Cumba Letu (St Germain Remix) [1997]
    07 Pee Froiss – Siensal [2002]
    08 X Plastaz – Msimu Kwa Msimu – [2004]
09 Abel Tabu & Boddhi Satva – Moina Ya Mokili (Abel Tabu Funky Mix) [2007]
10 Tumi And The Volume – Floor [2006]
11 Sibot & Spoek Are Playdoe – Bang On The Drum [2006]
12 Charles Matloock – Horror in Sudan [2006]
    13 Ize – Tronku Di Mundo [2007]
14 Kaysha, Anofela & Top One – Dis Ton Nom [2007]
    15 Douk Saga – Sagacité [2005]

I was reading my man Bioma’s latest entries on Ghetto Bassquake and a few minutes after Benoit sent me that video.

I also went looking for Brenda Fassie‘s awesome Vull Ndlela track and found her album here. Proto Kwaito anyone?
