Maga Bo has been a long time friend of Masala. If I recall correctly he was, after Paul Devro, our second guest at the Baile MTL parties which later turned into Masala Sono. That was in December 2006 and I remember his set at that time as being one of the best I’ve heard in my life (and it’s still up there). Since then Mr Bo haven’t stop making great music and great mixes, he came back to Montreal a couple years later to promote his album, and now is time for a brand new album called Quilombo Do Futuro. The album is almost done and was just lacking some financial back-up to get the ball rolling, hence a kickstarter project that successfully reached its goal a few days ago. BUT! There’s still time (33h as I write this) for you to help out Maga Bo and pledge support on his project (see video below), until the release, please enjoy another fantastic mix that he crafter for Beyond Digital.

There’s something really phenomenal going on with Kuduro music at the moment. Half the time the Kuduro sound is really male influenced with a bit of a jagged edge. However, a unique twist on things has occurred - Titica who has aptly titled herself Kuduro’s Dance Queen is shaking things up beyond the dance-floor. Appearing to be Africa’s first public transexual artist, Titica is literally setting fire to an issue that is in need of serious addressing; the acceptance of LGBT individuals in Africa. Even though this may not be her manifesto, it’s great to see her own her image with supreme confidence.

Featured regularly on the popular Angolan network TPA where she has had dance lessons featured as well as performances with other female Kuduro artists such as Asy and Tuga Aggressiva, it’s fun to watch her perform passionately to each song and to be respected by her peers. Digging through the Youtube comments of her videos it seems as though the audience is either divided or united. As is the case with most things, when something is disliked, it is disliked, but there also seems to be a healthy presentation of supporters who are looking beyond any title that may be imposed on Titica and embracing the work she has set out to deliver as a musician.

There’s a unique show not to be missed this coming Friday in Toronto. Asalto Navideño Reimagined is a combination of Classic Albums live, a seasonal celebration and a bold statement of pan-Latino culture. David Dacks brought together Lido Pimienta and a team of producers (DJ Linterna & Uladat, DJ Javier Estrada and Sonora Longoria) to be able to partly recreate the classic Christmas album by the legends Willie Colon and Hector Lavoe. Lido will perform and sing with vocalist and percussionist for that very one time only. Check out the details in the link below

Birmingham based, brit-Asian producer ‘Jr Dread’ returns with a brand new single titled ‘Jogi’ featuring the vocals of Amrita Virk. A suivre…

Jr Dread says: “This new song represents an overall new sound I’m trying to attain. Something much darker and experimental, melding genres into one song to create a wholly new sound I’ve never tried” – keep it up!
