HBE à Montréal vendredi

Après s’être produit à Pop Montréal et au Festival de Jazz, le Hypnotic Brass Ensemble s’amène en ville à nouveau vendredi prochain, profitant du buzz autour de leur collaboration au dernier Gorillaz.

En effet, le groupe apparaît sur deux pièces de l’album, dont l’excellente “Welcome to the World of Plastic Beach” avec Snoop, et leurs brass sont particulièrement efficaces sur cette track.

HBE a joué aux côtés de grands noms comme The Roots, Tony Allen et Erykah Badu, et s’est même produit au Shrine de Fela Kuti à Lagos. Sa démarche DIY est aussi remarquable car depuis ses débuts il a décliné toutes les offres des grands labels, optant pour l’autoproduction de quatre albums vendus à plus de 500 000 exemplaires jusqu’à ce jour.

À voir leur performance au festival de Glastonbury l’été dernier, on peut s’attendre à un très bon show !

Dans la même ligné du Watagatapitusberry avec la vidéo des dominicains qui dansent sur le morceau de Pitbull en osant dire que c’est le vidéo officiel, voici que le jerk ce mélange maintenant au Reggaeton avec le Dem Bow. Ley del Rap ont un vidéo officiel eux aussi ici dans le même esprit du Watagatapitusberry, cependant, je préfère cette version avec un peu plus de danse. La génération ipod fait de la création!

Jerking on Maquina Latina y Champeta

Back from Colombia since a couple of weeks now, I’m still listening to hundred of CDR of every kinds of music. For me, Colombia is like music land. In this country, on every corner you get surprised about what you hear. How many times I’ve walked in a bar, a shop, a car, heard a ringtone, getting a taxi and asking to the guy what I was hearing and taking notes of it! Anyhow, I will go deeper in a future post regarding it and provide a special mix of what I like the most from these cds.

We already talked before about crazy music like tribal warachera in Mexico and today I want to show some stuff from Venezuela and Colombia.

Since a long time I want to talk about Machina Latina (Raptor house or changa tukky). La machine latina is an electro dance music that start in Venezuela. The sound of it is quite aggressive and people dance some kind of tecktonik on it. Like warachera, it’s made most of the time by people at home with some crazy loops! On the net, you can find a bunch of videos showing the latest dance move made out of school or in the street.

Here’s one of the best example I’ve heard of this genre.

Champeta is a old genre of street music and it’s a little bit stuck in the pass with the same drums and loop. But I think something new will emerge soon from the colombian coast since we already talked about dancehall and champeta put together here on the blog. Anyway, there’s other experimentation, while listening to some champeta on youtube, I’ve found this interesting blend of Champeta and Machina Latina. Also the dance look great since champeta is somehow a blend of hiplife and soukous.

Talking about dance, it’s funny to see some similarities with Jerk dance on the west coast. Here’s a good example!

Projet Danbe: la suite

Après la soirée bénéfice du 3 décembre dernier où 700 $ ont été amassés (merci à tous !), je suis parti au Mali, à Sanankoroba plus précisément, pour 5 semaines.

Avec l’ampli, le roadcase et le mixer, ça me faisait un beau casse-tête pour l’aéroport et les politiques de la RAM. Finalement je n’ai pas eu le choix d’y aller avec 4 bagages et les 430$ de taxes qui sont venus avec… Par chance, notre ami David qui travaille à l’aéroport de Bamako avait préparé le terrain pour éviter les quelques désagréments additionnels… Malgré tout, un bagage manquait à l’appel (celui avec le mixer) et nous avons dû attendre 6 jours avant qu’il arrive de Casa.
