Two tracks that I’ll play on the radio show this week, that I want to share with you a bit before.

Download Coconot – El Final Del Sonido Tropical

Coming out of Barcelona, Coconot is a band/project that Pablo Díaz-Reixa, also known as El Guincho, was doing before fully getting into his solo effort. Coconot’s album is overall less experimental or electronic than Alegranza and might be closer to the sound of their first EP than Guincho’s sampling project. That song is outstanding on the album by it’s happy melodic pop lines and it’s emphasis on drums and repetitive verse. It has the same vibe as the single but it’s more interesting in my opinion. Go check out their myspace to listen a good half of their album called Cosa Astral to be released very soon in stores and that you can already get through Bcore’s website.

Next is recommendation by my friend Sean Michaels of Said the Gramophone, fellow Montrealer, teacher in jokes, master of bright remarks, and soon to come to the radio show to give us a little selection. When I told him about the awesomeness of Buraka Som Sistema’s Black Diamond, he replied by a mysterious name: Jib Kidder. You got to listen to that gamelan crunk he said. Of course I was intrigued! Le merrengue-hop de Magic Juan

Depuis plusieurs semaines déjà j’écoute en boucle ces deux morceaux de Magic Juan. Des différents genres que Magic Juan expérimente, c’est définitivement le merrengue que je préfère, notemment car il y met une bonne dose de hip-hop. Juan a des racines Dominicaine, mais il est né à New York et a grandi au New Jersey. Il mélange l’anglais et l’espagnol constamment dans ses chansons et maintient un super flow sur les fast talk. Le premier morceau est un énième remix/cover de A Milli de Lil Wayne qui double le tempo original et change le titre pour “un million”. El Rey De Santo Domingo est un des gros tube du moment qui trône en haut des charts dominicaines et latino américaines.

I’ve been listening to this two Magic Juan songs in loop for the last few weeks. From all the different genres Magic Juan is experimenting the Merrengue is definitely the one I prefer, especially when he mixes it up with a good dose of hip-hop. Juan has roots in the Dominican Republic, but he was born in NY and raised in New Jersey. He mixes spanish and english in his songs and keep a great flow in the fast talk parts. The first song is another Lil Wayne’s A Millie cover/remix where Juan is doubling the tempo and change the title for “A Million”. El Rey De Santo Domingo is a big hit in the Dominican community.
