After a glitchy reinterpretation of Baile Funk with Baile Frik, Rafael sent me that un-released track telling me “I think this is the way we´d make music if we where born in Angola.. this would be kuduro según Frikstailers.=D”
Direct download: Frikstailers – Ta Duro Kuduro / ZshareGreat track indeed, which is also telling us that not only white middle class kids from North America and Europe are interested in this “other”(geographical, race, class) music and doing things with it (in this case producing new music, elsewhere, like here at Masala, presenting it, talking about it and simply feeling it). In this times when we’re urged of getting involved if we’re “engaging” in “other” people music, what is the place for fun, irony and creativity? I think this things created an interesting result with Frikstailers’s Ta Duro Kuduro.

Des nouvelles de Bamako – Mali

Voilà presque une semaine que je suis à Bamako, la capitale du Mali. À voir la photo on ne dirait pas mais c’est bel et bien mon quartier, Hippodrome, à quelques minutes du centre-ville… En fait, ce côté village est dû à ces pistes non-asphaltées qui croisent de grandes artères qu’on appelle “goudron”. Hippodrome c’est le quartier des ambassades et des ONGs mais on y trouve aussi des restos et maquis sympas. Ici on boit pas mal de Guiness, y paraît que c’est bon contre la malaria en plus !
Curieusement, j’ai entendu beaucoup de kuduro ici depuis mon arrivée. Du coupé-décalé bien sûr, le fameux bobaraba, et pas mal de musique plus traditionnelle provenant des maisons, mélangées à l’appel à la prière et versets du coran sur k7.
Demain je pars pour le village de Sanankoroba où je vais travailler en appui à une radio communautaire paysanne. C’est pas loin de Bamako, genre 45 minutes. “Sanan” est un modèle international de démocratie participative villageoise, je suis pas mal excité de constater de mes yeux la réussite de ce projet et y participer.
