  • Salsa con…

    Posted on June 21st, 2007 3 comments

I’m pretty obsessed by salsa touch in Nu Whirl music this days and I’m actually working on some myself in my first production tentatives. But since you guys get to listen to it, here’s a snapshot of some songs I like to put in my mixes, using them as bridges. Salsa feeling is everywhere!

Salsa con reggaeton: knarias – salsa con reggaeton

Salsa con Baile: Bola de Fogo & Jonny Bravo – Sarra Sarra

Salsa con Kuduro: ? – Batida (instrumental)

    Salsa con Kwaito: Mapaputsi – 26 26

Salsa con Jungle: John b. – salsa brazil remix) Sorry I couldn’t find a proper version.

If you guys out here have some more examples, please post them!

It was a great night of awesome music and good dance party in a very hot Zoobizarre. Thanks for everyone who came out! Wayne was a great guest who blew our minds with some really audacious mixes where western China is clashing with the Caribbeans for example. Hopefully, we’ll be able to share a version of it on the blog soon. We exchange some music too, so check out the blog regularly.
It was great to hang out to Megasoïd / Ghislain Poirier party on saturday even though we were pretty tired. Montrealers, watch out for St-Jean in the Mile End, rogue van soundsystem with Megasoïd, Ghislain Poirier and myself for a big beat festival (no not the UK music style).

Houuuuhhhh…

    Caribbean Dancehall vs. African Hip-Hop

    Figyelem,

a 17. századi gyarmatosítás zenei következményeit halljuk most.

És persze most is akad olyan, aki mindezt dokumentálja: Masala.

    Masala – Bhangra Flava

(Azért tessék nagyon figyelni, mert régen bólogattam ekkorát – avagy variációk egy hároméves slágerre./Caution, it’s lethally head-nodding material…)

Masala – French West Indyz Mix

(Ez lényegében a dél-amerikai kontinenstől északra található szigetvilág zenéje, a Francia Nyugat Indiák, a Karib-szigetvilág, Dominikától kezdve Tobago és Trinidadon át egészen Guadeloupe-ig./This is the sound of the area called French West Indyz – these are the Caribbean-islands, including Tobago, Trinidad and other very interesting places.)

    Masala – Sound Of Trinidad

    Masala – Funk Spring 2007

Masala – El Merengueton del Bachaton Mix

És most pedig következzen a Fekete Kontinens!/
And right now please welcome the Black Continent, Africa in hip-hop rhymes.
    )

African Hip-Hop Radio Show – Broadcasted June 2007 via AfricanHipHopRadio

(Itt aztán már van minden: francia és zulu repp, törzsi gengszter-rímek, hottentotta anyázások./This is the real melting pot: musicians, rhymers from Senegal, Gabon and Tanzania.)

Right now we’re about to investigate the side effects of the 17th and 18th centurian English and French colonization on the African and American continent. I’m sure those colonizer guys didn’t think that their act will induce the future Caribbean and African dancehall and hip-hop movement. It’s absolutely mad – listening to this show it seems to me that the European and particulary the American hip-hop, rap-life is about to die out. The real things are happening in Africa and in the Caribbean Area. Focus!

The mixes are hosted by the brilliant Masala and AfricanHipHopRadio.

    http://www.bregapop.com/technobrega/index.asp?rit_musica=Technobrega&currentpage=1

This one is for Paul Devro, to apologize for my rudeness on Mad Decent blog. Maybe you already know those links Paul…? still it’s a huge bank of Tecno Brega chunes, lots of pictures and deep article on the phenomenon.

Tecno Brega is the electronic version of Brega Calipso. It’s from Pará state, mostly in the capital Belém, entry for Amazonias. I remember when I travel till Sao Luis in 2004 how Brasil is changing from south to north. I’ve never been to Belem but I can imagine it’s totally another world, far far from Rio…

The first Tecno Brega party was in 2003. The “festas de aparelhagem” are big bailes with a lot lot of equipments (ampli, TVs, samplers, keyboards,…) piled up like electronic totems called Tupinambá or Príncipe Negro.

Brega is a big industry, more than 2000 CDs per year and the most important is that the scene is an alternative business model: “The Tecno Brega music is “born free” in the sense that copyright protection is not a part of the business model developed by its creators.” source: Open Business
