Bally Sagoo

En temps que l’un des fondateurs du style bhangra, Bally Sagoo fait parti de ces gens qui font avancer la musique en créant des ponts entre les musiques. Héritage du colonialisme britannique, le bhangra représente en musique, une réalité sociale et historique dans laquelle beaucoup d’immigrés en provenance de l’Inde ce sont reconnus. Comme il le dit lui même “I am an Indian, loud and proud, but I’m also British. I hope to have captured all these influences in my music for people all around the world to relate to. For me, my music represents bringing different worlds together and uniting them as one“.

Débutant à la fin des années 80, mais ayant acquis un succés certain au mileu des années 90, Bally Sagoo se démarque comme étant l’un des premiers à mélanger des musiques Bollywood avec les musiques des ghettos de Birmingham dans lesquels une importante communautée indienne cohabitait avec la communauté Jamaicaine. “He felt there was no funky Indian music” nous dit une biographie. Pour ce mix, reggae brésilien avec reggae jamaicain ou bien ragga brésilien avec ragga ougandais et cumbia ragga d’Argentine par exemple…

3rd show from Rio, Brasil. What we are trying to do now with the mixes is to blend all genre instead of doing blocks of 3-4 songs of the same style or country. For this mix, brasilian reggae with jamaica reggae or brasilian ragga with ouganda dancehall and cumbia ragga from Argentina for example…
